Motor Cyclist Magazine June 2001
Situated on the main street (U.S. Route 40) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Johnny B. Good's Diner is out of place and out of time. This diner's looks and menu can have you thinking you've been transported back to the 1950s. The breakfasts and blue-plate specials are of such large proportions and small prices they'll leave you wondering why the local city council hasn't outlawed such good food at such a reasonable cost.
Johnny B. Good's decor is classic art deco. Black and white tiles cover the floor, large wooden booths line the walls, and stainless steel stools with vinyl seats stand sentinel at the Formica counter. Behind the soda fountain bar is a "Shake Board," where patrons get their names listed if they buy a milk shake for a friend. Not only are adults hooked on the thick, hand-dipped milk shakes that are said to be "good for you," the local kids line up for them, too.
From its appearance you'd think Johnny B. Good's was a half-century old Steamboat
Springs landmark, but you'd be wrong. The diner was established in 1995 by Mike and Kathy Diemer and combines a well-rounded menu with sensible pricing and a relaxing environment.

While sitting and enjoying the best coffee around, you'll see poster-sized photos of a motorcycle-mounted James Dean, Marilyn Monroe in her wind-blown white dress, and oil-company marquees rescued from old gas-station signs. In the background, tunes from the '50s and '60s play continuously. Behind the counter hang family portraits of young couples going to the prom, women going to the altar, and men going to war. The family atmosphere also carries over to the waitresses, who greet you like a long-lost cousin when you walk through the door.
Johnny B. Good's stands out as a refreshing roadhouse of the first order. When you're on the road, a place with good food at good prices and friendly waitresses always does.
